Wearing my glasses I leapt into action as the super hero private citizen: Literate Man!!!!!
We were making our way through the local book store when I happened to overhear a conversation between a father and his son:
Dad: You have to start reading something other than comic books.
- Good start, right?
Son: ....
- Uh oh, he's not connecting.
Dad: This looks like a good chapter book.
Son: ....
- The kid has to be at least 13 years old. Oh crap, he's losing him!!!
Me: (Start theme music for Shaft) Excuse me Sir! (I am talking to the son by looking at the father. Man, this Dad doesn't see it coming.) I couldn't help but overhear what you were saying. Have you tried this?
- I hand the Dad a 400+ page Sci-Fi book involving comic book super heroes. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that Literate Man does not make an appearance.
Dad: (Lightbulb) Hey thanks.
- Father and Son walk FOUR FEET to the next isle. After discussing the Son's love of Starwars the family leaves with a new hardback Starwars novel.
And the city drifts off into the evening knowing that the lights are still on fore Literate Man is among them. Of course, finishing that book left me with only four hours before the alarm clock went off....
This is a true story. Please try it at home. READ A BOOK !!!
